Former Host of “The Daily Show” — a news station giving satirical accounts of national news — Jon Stewart is returning to host Monday nights throughout the election season starting on Feb. 12. The comedian and political commentator will stay on the show through 2025, according to Rolling Stone.
Stewart left “The Daily Show” in 2015 after 16 years of hosting to direct various films and shows like “Rosewater”, “Irresistible” and his Apple TV series “The Problem.” Comedian Trevor Noah took over as host and recently left the show seven years later wanting more time for himself to travel and for “other experiences”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Junior Poppy Root watches “The Daily Show” and makes an effort to keep up with national news. She’s looking forward to Stewart’s return to the show.
“I like the show and I like their views on politics,” Root said. “I think it’s good [that Stewart is coming back] because they didn’t have a host that was actually staying, they just [had] different kinds of hosts here and there and so I think it’s good that he’s coming back.”
AP European History teacher Emily Fossoh watched the show before Stewart left and appreciated his ability to combine humor and investigative reporting.
“I think there’s a lot of truth to [his reporting] but he brings humor and makes people think about certain topics,” Fossoh said.
In an interview with CBS News, President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment studios Chris McCarthy says “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation” and Root agrees with this.
“He is able to voice things that are going on in this generation so well, because it’s hard for older people like him to understand our generation,” Root said. “And I think it’s somewhat refreshing knowing that he’s able to do that.”
