The varsity Boys’ Soccer team kicked off their season in style Tuesday night with a 4-0 victory over Blue Valley. In the first game of a two game tournament, the Lancers showed off their skills in front of a size-able weeknight crowd. Key performers in the first game included junior Tyler Rathbun, who didn’t score but facilitated the ball very well, and junior Austin Wilcox, who scored the first goal of the game to take a lead from which the Lancers never looked back.
The next night, the Lancers squared off against North KC. The game was a slaughter on turf, with the Lancers winning 8-2. Rathbun once again performed well, knocking in two goals, but the star of the game was sophomore Noah Eidemiller, who scored a hat trick in only his second varsity start.
The tournament gave the Lancers a chance to flaunt their high octane offense. East came away from their first two games looking very strong. Standout performers included Rathbun and Wilcox, who each notched two goals in the two games, and Eidemiller, who came away from the tournament with four goals to his name.
After some uncertainty in the off-season about this Lancer team, the tournament is a great sign for East fans. With 12 goals scored in two games, the Lancers showed that they can definitely score in bunches. Time will tell if they can keep their scoring up.
