Signing Day 2023: New changes made this year put a time limit on students

Signing day took place this afternoon in the cafeteria at 3:00 p.m. This year, 20 varsity athletes will sign with 18 college programs for their respective sports.

This year however, the student-athletes will rotate around a singular table set up when they sign, as opposed to years past where each student had their own personalized signing table.

Students will only have three minutes to sign and take photos before rotating onto the next person.

Senior and varsity soccer player Grace Hastert does not believe this is the most effective way to execute signing day as she commits to University of Missouri St Louis.

“I think signing day is going to be fun,” Hastert said. “But I am nervous about only having 3 minutes to have my signing day before having to pack up really fast.”

While this new setup is less personal for students, it makes signing day go by faster.

“Unlike last year, we have so many more people that it was a better decision overall.” Hastert said.

Senior and varsity tennis player Bryson Langford is excited to commit to Davidson College for signing day despite the new changes.

“I have never been to a signing day before, or anyone else’s for that matter,” Langford said. “But I think it’s important that every person gets a moment to themselves for their coaches to speak and have the spotlight.”
