When Shawnee Mission East and senior John Schrock scored their first touchdown on a QB sneak, everything fell apart for the Shawnee Mission North Indians in the most recent edition of the Nut Cup. The Lancers seemed to have everything go their way tonight going on to win the game 40-21; although after the third quarter the Lancers were up 40-0 went Coach Chip Sherman pulled the starters.
Schrock got the game going early by scoring the two first touchdowns with ease, the sneak and a medium range fade to Grant Ellis. Junior Running back Adam Lowe took over the game from there scoring on two long runs. These were the first two touchdowns in Lowe’s varsity career. Ellis intercepted a pass in East’s red zone preventing an early North score, Ellis proceeded to return the ball deep in to Indian territory leading to a score.
North lost Fullback Mitch Peyton early after a big hit he took duing a run he had, this certainly hampered the Indian’s capability to produce yards. Throughout the game North struggled to move against the stout East defense, only when the starters were pulled could they move the ball.
Getting the running game going for East was the most signifigant factor of this game, not that it was key for the Lancers to win tonight but it will be key for the Lancer’s next game against Olathe North, the state favorite. The Lancer’s next game is a week from Friday at the Olathe District Athletic Complex.
