SHARE to Host Bubble Soccer Tournament

SHARE will be hosting a bubble soccer tournament from Feb. 28 to Mar. 1 to raise awareness for Hillcrest Transitional Services. Hillcrest aims to help transition people who are homeless into independent lives through a 90-day program.

This game is a variation on soccer, where each player wears a massive plastic bubble around their upper body and torso. This allows players to slam into each other, and to be knocked off their feet without being hurt by the fall.

SHARE coordinator, Krissie Wiggins, said Hillcrest came to SHARE in Nov. Students participating in SHARE are are volunteering to work at the tournament, gathering teams and sponsors and finding in between game entertainment.

Hillcrest has been around for 30 years. Wiggins says its program has a 90 percent success rate.

“They’ve just moved into Johnson County because there’s a growing need…and I think people don’t realize that,” Wiggins said. “And they need to. We have to take care of our neighbors.”

There are 32 slots for teams to sign up. Each team costs $200 and can have up to 10 players.

“We’re grateful for anyone who tries to gather the funds and get a team together,” said Wiggins.
