Regretful Sips: The new Starbucks protein drinks are a waste of money

As I was scrolling through the Starbucks app, getting ready to preorder my usual mango dragonfruit refresher, I thought I would glance at the featured items. At the top of the screen was the brand new protein drinks. When I first saw this I supposed this was a genius idea. They have seven different drink options to choose from. I thought, why not try three?

I got the Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte first, in the smallest size they had and it had 20 grams of protein, according to the Starbucks app. It was awful, and sadly the best one I tried.

First, I tried the cold foam on top of the drink,  which reminded me of thick milk with a hint of sugar. Not the best. Next, the actual drink, it didn’t taste that different from a regular Starbucks vanilla latte, but definitely worse. What first came to mind when I tried it was eggnog. I don’t think it was worth the $6.45 for 12 fl oz, but definitely the best out of the three.

Next I tried the Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew. Now I will admit, I'm not the biggest coffee lover unless it's sweet. But this was just straight up horrible.

When I first saw it I thought anything with chocolate can't be that bad. I was wrong. Again, I tried the chocolate cold foam first, it was like drinking very watered down chocolate milk. The drink itself was like drinking straight black coffee watered down. The whole thing tasted watered down. I don't recommend the 15 grams of protein and the $5.95 you're spending on it.

The last drink I tried was the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha. The only word I can use to describe that drink is grass. There was no banana flavor in that drink whatsoever. I will give them that you could taste the cream flavor but personally, grass and cream isn’t exactly my favorite combo. The cold foam was the same as the vanilla latte so it was obtainable to drink unlike the rest of the matcha. This drink had 19 grams of protein and was $6.45. Again, not worth it.

Overall I would skip the extra protein as it's unnecessary since it’s in your food. It was interesting that Starbucks decided to branch out, but they should probably stick to making what they are good at, regular coffee.
