The boys’ soccer team took on Blue Valley Northwest (BVNW) in the substate game. The Lancers lost 1-0. Olathe East, SM Northwest, Blue Valley Northwest and SM East were the four teams that advanced to the substate tournament this year.
The first half of the game remained scoreless for both sides. The Lancers tried to score and attack during the first half, but had no luck. The rain and the wind played a factor in the game, making it harder for the boys to stay focused. BVNW scored during the second half while the Lancers remained scoreless. During most of the second half the Lancers remained on defence trying to keep BVNW from scoring again. The final score was 1-0.
“We fought hard but our possession was off because the rain made it harder to control,” junior Michael Moedritzer said. “We dominated the first half, but the second half with the wind and the rain was against us making it harder to play.”
This is the team’s first loss in seven games. The last time East played BVNW, the Lancers won 1-0. This loss marks the end of the boys’ soccer season. The boys final record this year was 13-5-1.
