The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a standardized test open to student in Junior year in the US.
It will take place at East at 7:40 a.m. on Wed. Oct. 15.
You can pick up registration form from the counseling center, and the registration deadline is 3:00 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 9. With the registration form you have to bring $17 in cash or check (made payable to Shawnee Mission East High School)
Students should also bring a photo ID, two #2 pencils with erasers and an acceptable calculator (see approved list).
The PSAT is made up of three sections: Math, Critical Reading and Writing Skills. It is mostly multiple choice, except for 10 open-response math questions. It lasts for two hours, 10 minutes.
The maximum score is 240 points. Your score is used to work out if you qualify for as a semifinalist National Merit Scholarship Programs. You qualify if you score in the highest 1 percent in your state, which in Kansas is usually around 214.
