This weekend, the Lancer girls’ tennis team will be playing in the regional tournament, with hopes to qualify all six varsity players to the state tournament next weekend. Senior Elizabeth Barnickel and freshman Sarah Wilcox are both playing singles. Junior Aidan Epstein is paired up with senior Stephanie Wilcox to play doubles; freshman Lakin McLiney and sophomore Joie Frierich are also teamed up for doubles.
“The team’s looking good to come home with the team victory,” Stephanie said. “All of the East players hopefully will get far in the tournament, and hopefully we can bring home a state title again.”
The team’s biggest competition will be Blue Valley and Blue Valley North, with two key players, Morgan Steffes and Alexa Tiefel, who have won a majority of the matches that they’ve played in.
“Blue Valley has two very strong players that both play singles, which will bring them in more points at State,” Stephanie said. “North’s team is full of good players this year.”
