After last week’s 40-0 demolition of Gardner Edgerton, the Lancers face district rival SM South tonight in their first home game of the year. SM South is also 1-0 on the season after beating SM North 41-14 in their season opener.
South’s victory was anchored by senior Dalton Dewallen, who rushed and received for a combined 145 yards and four touchdowns in the SM North game. Dewallen also plays linebacker and notched five tackles and an interception. Although South won by 27 points and is 1-0, they played a lower intensity team than East did to open the season.
Last week’s game against Gardner Edgerton was supposed to be a shoot out between two teams who were state contenders last year. Instead, SM East shut down Gardner’s running game and sliced through the defense, resulting in an unexpected blowout.
Leading the offensive charge was senior wide receiver Alec Dean, who leads the league with 148 receiving yards and three touchdowns on the game. On the defensive end, senior defensive end Kyle Ball roped in nine tackles with five for a loss and two sacks.
Tonight’s game is a home game, but it will be hosted at SM South District Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the theme is holidays. Can’t make it to the game? Watch the live broadcast here.
