East varsity swim will compete in the Sunflower League meet on Friday and Saturday. The meet is the last competition before state on February 20 and 21.
Preliminaries begin on the first day of the league meet. The top 12 swimmers in each event compete in finals on Saturday.
This meet is one of the final chances for swimmers who have not yet qualified for state to earn a chance to compete. Seniors Max Keeter and Mitch Kerr are among other East swimmers who hope to qualify.
“We’ve been working at a new training regimen,” senior swimmer Benn Scmatz said. “We’ve had more guys than usual qualify for state before league.”
A maximum of four swimmers from a single school can qualify to state in each event. East divers are also competing to move on to state in the league meet.
The meet will be held at Olathe Prairie Trail Middle School, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.
