The Lancers’ playoff run continues tonight in an away game against the defending state champion Blue Valley Northwest Huskies. The Lancers move on after a one point victory over Blue Valley High on Thursday.
After falling behind in the third quarter, East outscored Blue Valley 11-2 in the final minutes to continue in the sub state bracket.
“We played good enough to win [Thursday] night,” junior guard Gunnar Englund said. “But it wasn’t our best performance.”
East goes into the second round a severe underdog to Northwest, the top ranked 6A school in Kansas. The Huskies start five seniors, four of which will have the opportunity to play college basketball next year. Senior Clayton Custer for the Huskies has been committed to Iowa State since 2012.
“We just need to play more relaxed and less tight I think,” Englund said. “Since we’ll be the underdogs, I think we’ll play a lot looser and just go out there to win.”
The Lancers will look to junior Lucas Jones for offensive production and hope that strong shooting from senior Colin Burns continues. The two players tied in total points to lead the team on Thursday.
