The Prairie Village Planning Commission unanimously voted to issue a Special Use Permit to Hunt Midwest and Principal Senior Living Group to construct an assisted senior living home at 2700 Somerset, where Somerset Elementary School stands. Hunt Midwest, a real estate and development firm, has been in negotiations with the Shawnee Mission School District over purchasing the 6.71 acres and building for $900,000.
The proposed plan calls for a single-story structure of 59 living units, however the two firms mentioned the possibility of adding 12 separate units in the future. Principal Senior Living Group, which operates several other similar facilities, estimated that construction will last one year and the home itself create 25-30 jobs.
The proposal will be forwarded to the Prairie Village City Council for review on October 17.
