A few weeks ago, pink flyers advertising the SM East orchestra fundraiser began appearing on the walls of middle schools in the Shawnee Mission School District and other middle schools in surrounding districts.
On Friday, Apr. 18, the SME orchestra students will be hosting a dance for middle school orchestra members. The fundraiser, which was created by SME alumni Ali Felman three years ago, aims to raise money for the program’s trips and fundraisers.
“It’s a fun way to make a little money for us,” junior Molly Gasperi said. “This is our third year doing this and it should be successful.”
Gasperi, one of the students organizing the dance, also attended the dance when she was in
middle school.
“I remember having a lot of fun,” Gasperi said. “I went with a bunch of my friends and we had a blast.”
To prepare for the fundraiser, Gasperi is selling tickets, calling middle school principals and gathering decorations.
“I’m so excited to see the middle schoolers come to East,” senior Elizabeth Young said. “Watching them become more comfortable and meet new people is fun to watch.”
