Profiles of the Candidates:

Junior Tom Lynch has one main goal if he is elected Student Body President – to make changes.  Lynch has witnessed the development of the current Executive Board and and admires how they have started new things such as video announcements. He would like to continue to make changes along those same lines. Lynch wants to get more people involved and transform “the old way” of student council. As Treasurer during his freshman and sophomore years, he does not lack experience. For Spirit Week Lynch would like to poll the entire school about possible themes instead of making the decision solely based on StuCo members’ opinions.

Junior Michael Esselman wants to establish more school spirit if he is elected. Esselman transferred from Rockhurst at the beginning of the semester and wants to develop a competition in which each class will get points when they attend events. Esselman is running for Student Body President because he strongly believes that East does not have enough school spirit and says that people should vote for him “because [he] can make it fun for anyone.”

Carolyn Welter, the current Junior Class President, wants to get the student body involved.  As President during her freshman year and Vice President her sophomore year, she knows the ropes of StuCo and believes that her dedication is what sets her apart. Welter believes that some of candidates are running for the wrong reasons – that they are simply doing it to add to their resume. Welter does not wish to make any drastic changes, but to enhance and address the issues the past executives have brought up. She has put up campaign posters that declare “Dogs Love Me”, “I’ve Met Edward Cullen”, and “I Have a Pet Dinosaur Named Javier”.
