The National Honor Society seniors are required to do two community service projects in order to stay in the program. This year (NHS representatives) Amy Sachse and Taylor Runion have decided to do NHS tutoring as their in-school project.
“[This past week] It’s been fun to lead something that really makes a difference in the school,” Sachse said.
Sachse and Runion, along with other NHS members are in the library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 to 3:15 and available to tutor whoever needs help, no sign up is required.
However, not many students have taken advantage of this opportunity even though it’s easy to participate. So far, there have only been about 10 participants this year, but the program just started last week.
“Students have shown interest in the program,” Sachse said. “I think as the word spreads it will become more of a success.”
Science and Math are the two most common subjects that the students need help in, but the members of NHS are there to help with all subjects.
“Math is my strongest subject so I think if anyone came to me with a math question I would be able to answer it,” Runion said. “It is a great resource we have and I wish people would take advantage of it.”
