Tuesday Robbery of Nearby Bank Creates No Threat To East

On August 23, US Bank in the Prairie Village Shopping Center was robbed at 1:45 pm. Despite the proximity of the crime, East was not put under lock down because no immediate threat was made to the school.

“One of the reasons we didn’t go into lock down was he entered the bank and there was no visible threat or carried weapon,” Dr. Krawitz, the principal of East, said.

“When fled he left on foot heading north and away from the school.” This is the third time this month a man dressed as a woman has robbed a bank in the area. If there was a threat to East, the administration would be prepared to take the necessary steps to ensure the student’s safety.

“We have what we call the code system,” Krawitz said. “Once its enforced it’s an immediate response. If the criminal had gotten in a vehicle and gone up Mission Road we would have gone into a lock down just like that. Response is critical.”
