Beginning next year, every middle school in the Shawnee Mission School District will be offering sports programs for cross country, boys’ wrestling, girls’ volleyball and basketball to any students who wish to participate.
The teams will be no-cut, so any athlete who tries out will make it and be placed on a team based on their level of ability. Number of teams will be determined by the amount of students who go out for each sport.
The players will receive uniforms, have daily practices and scheduled games- playing each school in the district.
Intramural games will continue with the exception of basketball and volleyball; they will be played formally.
“It’ll be fun for us to have athletics,” Indian Hills Intramural coordinator Sandy Laudemann said. “I think it’ll definitely add school spirit and be a good way to get students involved.”
