On Nov. 6, East’s top musical students were bussed west to Baldwin City to try out for the Northeast Kansas Music Educators Association District Orchestra, Choir, and Band.
Seniors Betsy and Jack Dee, Emily Welter, John Meyer, Celeste Rinner, and Jacob Rudolph made the district Choir with juniors Amy Bonds and Abby Moore.
19 band members made the district band, including seniors Lucas Throckmorton, Tyler Cecil, Nora Kanally, Russell Philpott, Joseph Kashka, Tom Hung, and Burke Smith. Throckmorton, Kanally, Smith, along with sophomores Ingrid Starkey and Emma Reno, were selected as top chairs of their section.
For the orchestra, seniors Jonathan Dawson, Lauren Gillespie, Mackenzie Burroff, Rebecca Callstrom, Nathan Simpson, Spencer Brown, Greg Tracy, Maddie Bavley, and Cory Jennet made District with 15 other underclassmen. Tracy was selected as top chair for the string bass, while Dawson was selected as second chair for violin.
