Live lobsters will be flown in from Maine for the 75th semi-annual Lancer Lobster Landing. The final date to order a lobster is October 10th and the pickup date is October 15th from 10 to 11:30 a.m. International club members and parent volunteers will be there to help distribute lobsters and collect money.
The Lancer Lobster Landing was started 37 years ago and was a fundraiser for AFS students. Now it is for all East international students as well as East students that study abroad. The money raised goes towards scholarships and helps international students with school fees such as activity passes, lunch money and yearbooks.
Fliers go out to every East family and the Lobster Landing has also created a substantial customer base. In the past, the International club has averaged around 700 to 1000 lobsters for one sale. Lobsters cost 15 dollars per 1 ¼ lb.
East art teacher, Shelly Trewolla has helped with the Lobster Landing for 10 years and always enjoys the event.
“We usually have the kids give out the lobsters and so they are all like, ‘Ew ew’ lobsters but then by the end they are like, ‘Here’s a lobster(waving them playfully toward customers)’” Trewolla said.
