The varsity Lancer Dancers returned from National Dance Alliance (NDA) Nationals this week after placing second out of six teams in their lyrical dance and sixth out of ten in hip-hop. Their jazz score is the highest East has ever received.
“We got exactly what we were hoping for,” said junior Emily Meiring. “We made history and we couldn’t be prouder.”
The lyrical dance received a score of 9.488 out of 10 in the Large Varsity Jazz category and the hip-hop dance received an 8.791 in Large Varsity Hip-Hop.
The team competed at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, FL against schools from 25 other states, as well as a few from Japan. They performed their lyrical dance Sunday morning and their hip-hop dance that night.
“The first time we performed on the stage we all had nerves,” Meiring said. “But it got easier to get out there as the weekend went on.”
The drill team won’t be starting any new dances soon, but plan to have their spring show in April.
