In the fashion industry, money can seem splurged on the daily. International brands like Louis Vuitton have their classic pump at upwards of $750, and even local brands like Baldwin have created their signature basics with sweaters at $158. Whether you see it in magazines, on Pinterest or at school, it can get pretty overwhelming and sometimes discouraging.
I definitely know the reality-check feeling of searching for the perfect item, only to find it is $300. That is why thrifting, discount diving, and sale shopping is so rewarding. Although it does take time, patience and determination, I assure you the feeling of finding a gem amongst rubbish will give you the same rush as swiping your daddy’s credit card.
The difference between thrifting and sale shopping is the pricing. When thrifting, spending over $10-20 on one item is totally ridiculous. The one exception to this rule, is if it is a designer or vintage piece. With sale shopping, you can choose your budget. It could be a $15 skirt from H&M which was originally $30, or a $750 coat from Nordstrom on sale for $300. If it’s a fantastic deal you can’t pass up, just pull the trigger.
Here is an outfit I put together using Polyvore. For this “Look for Less,” I personally found the same J Brand jeans at the store Half of Half for $40 in mint condition, the knock-off sweater online from Forever 21, and I found the boots online on sale for $30 from Storenvy.
Here is a list of my favorite places to find the best deals in KC:
Nordstrom Rack
Half of Half
Savers
Arizona Trading Company
Bon chance!
