What it means and how it would impact you:
If passed, this bill would give voters the ability to donate an amount of their choice (or check a box for $1, $5 or $10) to the new arts commission starting in 2013 on Kansas state individual income tax returns.
Governor Brownback issued an executive order that eliminated the Kansas Arts Commission. If passed, this bill would allow Kansas to refund the arts through the Kansas Creative Industries Commission.
“The arts play a major role in education, economic growth and our culture. I am very disappointed the Governor chose to dissolve the Kansas Arts Commission. With the enactment of HB 2454 it is my hope that Kansans will take the opportunity to donate to this extremely worthwhile and needed program. It is a quality of life issue,” said Representative Kay Wolf.
