I was never the kid who was obsessed with dinosaurs, but when I watched “Jurassic Park” the first time at 9 years old, it was one of the coolest movies I had seen. I was too young to see it in theaters because it was released in 1993, so having the chance to see it on the big screen when it was re released in theaters was a totally different experience, especially with the 3D added in. It was way more in your face than watching it on the small TV in my great aunt’s kitchen.
The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg and focuses on a new theme park, Jurassic Park, that an older man, John(Richard Attenborough), is trying to get approved for opening. But this is not your average theme park. The park is filled with live dinosaurs, even though they have been extinct for over 200 million years. John has been working with scientists to collect dinosaur DNA to recreate the dinosaurs for his park. He invites two archaeologists and other scientists to endorse the park, but while the guests are in a Jeep the tour stops abruptly and the guests are trapped. The rest of the movie consists of the characters trying to make it out safe after all of the dinosaurs have been set loose after the electric fences have been shut off.
The 3D element that they added for this release of the film really added suspense, I felt like I was part of the movie and could have been attacked by a velociraptor! I jumped out of my seat a few times because of the jolts I got from thinking there was a dinosaur in my face. The dinosaurs were enhanced with the 3D, but I think that this version made the grass and surrounding too much in your face. Yes, the surrounding is an important part of feeling like you are in the movie, but I didn’t need to feel like blades of grass and tree branches were going to whack me in the face every five minutes.
Even if you have not seen “Jurassic Park” before, I would highly recommend seeing it in theaters and with the 3D added. It adds to the experience and you are not going to get the chance to see dinosaurs close to their actual size unless you see it on the big screen. Be prepared to go on your adventure in a park filled with prehistoric dinosaurs and flinch in you seat a few times when you decide to see “Jurassic Park: 3D”.
