Each year the Junior Student Council is in charge of planning prom. This year’s group will begin fundraising for prom next week. They will be contacting local businesses about donating money or time to help with planning or putting on prom.
They will specifically be asking businesses that have children who are students or have attended East, according to junior treasurer Kirby Motsinger.
Prom is always held at Union Station in May. This year junior StuCo will have to raise more money than in years because Union Station raised their prices.
Up until now, StuCo has been spending most of their time on the can drive in which all donations will go to Johnson County Christmas Bureau which helps families during the holidays.
Once the money is raised in Jan. or Feb., junior StuCo will start to plan by talking about different themes for the dance and if they want a DJ or live band.
Junior class president, Matthew Trecek looks forward to the challenges junior StuCo will face.
“I think that just seeing everything finally come together in the finishing stages, I feel like that will be really cool,” Trecek said.”
