As current members of the Student Council Executive Board prepare for graduation, the new candidates are preparing to campaign for the four prestigious positions on the Exec Board – President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Each year the four board roles become one of the most talked about topics in the East hallways. Campaign posters attempting to influence the student body will crowd classrooms and whiteboards.
Some students have already shown interest by attending informational meetings about the elections on Tuesday. With a turnout of about 12 students in the past two meetings, and with two more meetings at 7:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, it seems that this year’s election will have a similar amount of nominees as in the past.
“There’s been an average amount of sign-ups this year,” math teacher and StuCo sponsor Hannah Pence said. “It’s around the same number as the past few elections.”
Any students interested in running can attend the informational meetings in room 307 on Thursday. Candidates must have had one year of StuCo experience, be a junior or senior and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. The deadline for signing up for the election is Feb. 18 after school.
