Homecoming Candidates Q&A

The Homecoming crowning will take place after the football game at Shawnee Mission South on Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. Get to know a few of the homecoming nominees this year:

Olive Henry

HENRY, oliveCMYK

Involved in:

Debate, Diversity and Inclusion executive, Coalition executive, Junior Board executive and IB.

What was your morning awakening like?

“I started getting suspicious the night before because my mom was telling me I needed to clean my room. It was nice to know before they came in and woke me up.”

What are you looking forward to most about homecoming?

“I’m really excited to go in a big group and go to an after party. The past couple years I’ve just gone with my friends. So I’m excited to get my hair done and really commit to the whole experience.”

Why should people vote for you?

“I think I’m a good representation of the school and student body. I’ve committed my high school career to bettering this school as a place and creating a better environment for the people who go here.”

Lizzie MacAdam

MACADAM, lizzie

Involved in:

Varsity track and field, tennis, link crew leader, yearbook editor, NHS officer chair.

What was your morning awakening like?

“I was about to get in the shower and I was in my towel, then I heard this music outside my door and I was like ‘why is my mom playing music outside my door?’, so I opened the door and there were these girls I’ve never met before. I’m sure they were scarred and ran out of there pretty fast.”

What are you looking forward to most about homecoming?

“Probably the group I’m going with. It’s just all my friends and I’m going with a guy I actually like this year.”

Why should people vote for you?

“I’m not campaigning, but I feel like people should vote for me because I’m a nice person. I was shocked when I got nominated and it’s such an honor. It means more than you think knowing there are people out there in the school who actually voted for me — some of who I don’t talk with that much.

Peter Kohring

KOHRING

Involvement in:

Varsity, soccer, track, Social Skills class and a “yell leader.”

What was your morning awakening like?

“Before I went to bed my mom said make sure you’re wearing clothes in the morning. It was surprising, but funny because six girls came into my room. I share a room with my brother and they woke him up too and I think he was more confused than I was.”

What are you looking forward to most about homecoming?

“I’m excited because it’s my last [dance] and I’m hoping it will be one of the best. I’ve got a fun group and date to go with so I’m excited.”

Why people should vote for you?

“Oh gosh, well I am definitely honored to be nominated and I think everyone deserves to win.”
Sean Paddack

PADDOCK

Involved in:

AP art, Village Voices and forensics.

What was your morning awakening like?

My mom was like ‘oh hey Sean’, then told me everything. They came in my room but I was already awake because I wake up at 5 a.m.. It was funny because they didn’t have the music playing yet, so they forgot and had to wait to start it.

What are you looking forward to most about homecoming?

“I have a lot smaller of a group [this year] so there is less drama and I don’t have a huge commitment for the after party which is less stressful.”

Why should people vote for you?

“Can I bribe someone? I’ll give you 50 cents if you vote for me. Just kidding. I’d like to say I’m a relatively nice person and I hope people see that.”
