Healthy Addition: Corinth Square has many new changes including the recent addition of the franchise Modern Market Eatery

Modern Market Eatery, a sustainable, healthy eating restaurant, opened in the Corinth Square shopping center on Dec. 11 making it one of many changes made to the shopping center in the past year.

Founded in 2009, the franchise came to Corinth Square after marketing director Dave Phillips was looking to expand his chain of healthy restaurants.

From the beginning, Phillips knew he wanted a location in the Prairie Village area. According to Phillips, the location housed a group of people who had healthy lifestyles and were intentional about what they were eating.

“This is just such a perfect demographic place and we thought there was a real need for a healthy option,” Phillips said.

He contacted the owner of Modern Market Eatery Jon Ralph asking if he could partner and open a location in Kansas.

He bought his first chain of the franchise in Austin, Texas a year before opening the Corinth location to learn how to operate and run a chain in the Modern Market Eatery franchise. Once He felt comfortable running the restaurant, he opened his location in Corinth Square.

“[Modern Market Eatery] is all about sustainability, nothing goes to the landfill,” Phillips said.  “We thought this is better than we could do, so we asked if [the owners] would be willing to franchise.”

Modern Market Eatery isn’t the only difference Corinth Square has seen recently.

The Learning Tree received new ownership this year.

Brett Goodwin, The Learning Tree’s new owner, plans to keep the store in its same fun-loving environment and gain a fresh perspective in Corinth.

“Our number one goal is not to screw anything up and make sure that we keep the magic that [The Learning Tree] has,” Godwin said. “We love the way the store looks, it’s so much fun.”

According to East Parent and Corinth PR member Allison Taylor, Many larger businesses moving out create more space for local small businesses to expand and grow their merchandise.

“The changes have been good,” Taylor said. “I think it has retained the community feel that people like about Corinth when you get local business owners.”
