A 100 ft measuring tape was ripped out of it’s case, a set of uneven bars was written on in permanent marker and liquids were poured into a chalk tray in the auxiliary gym where SM East and SM North gymnastics teams both practice. Coach Chuck Lundblad was the first to discover the vandalism before practice on Monday, August 27.
“They wrote profanity on the low bar,” says Coach Lundblad “which the custodians, fortunately were able to clean off, and thats only a few of the things they did.”
The liquids poured into the chalk tray ruined the chalk used on the uneven bars. They also wrote on a few of the mats.
Janitors say they kicked kids out of the gym during a kids basketball tournament this past weekend, but didn’t look if anything had been touched, and aren’t positive on who did it.
Luckily, most of the damage has been cleaned off and isn’t dangerous to any of the gymnasts. Though it took some time to clean up, they’ve been able to continue practice as usual.
