The Lancers hosted their final home meet of the season on Thursday, winning with a score of 112 points to 68 over SM South.
With cheers echoing off the concrete walls, East opened the meet in dominating fashion, with their A, B and C relays placing first, second and third respectively in the 200-yard medley relay. South finished fourth in the event, with East placing fifth and sixth. At the end of the first event, the Lancers were already out to a 10 point lead.
The Lancers won every relay of the meet with finishers consistently in the top five. East’s advantage in both numbers and skill over South was evident. Freshman made a significant impact in team points, with a freshman contributing points in every event.
“We did a good job of racing in the meet after a few really hard practices,” junior captain Emma Linscott said. “Because we have League next week we’re trying to maintain our training through this meet and into next week.”
East continued to pull away in points after the diving portion of the meet where junior Lilly Condon placed second. Senior captain Crissie Blomquist then finished the remainder of the meet with a first place finish in the 100 butterfly.
In the second to last event of the meet, the 100 backstroke, the Lancers swept the top eight places. Junior Izzy Smith won the event by over eight seconds with a time of 1:05.88. Smith anchored the winning 400 Freestyle Relay, concluding the meet. East won the race by almost 10 seconds, extending their lead at every turn.
“My last home meet at East was sentimental, but it was also really fun,” Blomquist said. “I will really miss racing and practicing in that pool.”
The Lancer’s next meet is the Sunflower League championship, where they will be attempting to win consecutive championships, with preliminary swims on May 5 and finals on May 6 at California Trail Middle School.
