Over the past weekend girl’s tennis and golf took on state. The top six players from each team went and competed. Girl’s golf achieved first place overall and tennis came in second.
Varsity tennis players Sarah Wilcox, Aidan Epstein, Larkin McLiney, Gretchen Cooper, Joe and Beth Freireich, and Lucy Kendall took on 13 teams. Sophomore, Sarah Wilcox, placed 2nd in singles playing against Senior Josephine Cal from Shawnee Mission West.
“We have won state the last four years” Wilcox said.”I thought we were worked hard this year, but I knew Blue Valley North had some new freshman that would be hard to beat.”
The team celebrated after at BRGR reminiscing on the season.
Girl’s tennis may have fallen just short of a first place trophy but girl’s golf clenched the win they need to become state champs. Julia Stopperan, Riley Ricket, Marti Fromm, Haley Bell, Teagan Noblit and Jessica Parker all brought home the first place trophy. Being down by three strokes in the final match didn’t stop the girl’s from coming back and leading by 22 strokes.
“When I first found out that we won, it just felt like how it normally feels to win a regular tournament” Ricket said. “Then I realized that it was the state tournament that we won and felt really proud of not only myself but of my team.”
