Girls Basketball Updates: Girls basketball placed fifth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament

Current Placements

  • Girls varsity basketball recently placed fifth in the Mid-American Conference Tournament in McPherson, KS.
  • The team currently has a record of 5-12.

Top Performers

Senior Fina Kessler has been a top performer for the team and is their leading scorer this season. She was also nominated to join the tournament team for the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

Senior Paige Stanfield has also been a top performer for the SM East team as their leading rebounder and the second leading rebounder in the Sunflower League.

Upcoming Competitions

  • Girls varsity will play Lawrence Free State at home on Tuesday, February 17th for their Senior Night at 5:30 p.m.
  • Girls varsity will play SM West on Friday, February 20th at SM West at 5:30 p.m.

“I've been on varsity [for four years], and I've seen what senior night's like and all the seniors that have gone through the program,” Stanfield said. “So it's crazy that it's finally me. I can't believe it. All the seniors are right when they say time flies by, so it's just kind of surreal after four years."

Strengths and Weaknesses

The Lancers have demonstrated strong work ethic and resilience this season. This includes a commitment to play harder than opponents to enhance their chances of winning, focusing on improving offensive execution, particularly during stretches of games where they struggle to score. Their efforts indicate a determination to turn their performance around.

"We always have to be confident in each other and trust each other," Stanfield said.
"That's a big thing that we're doing right now. It's trusting the person has your help or, you know, just anything, like, trust the person's gonna make the shot."

Injuries

There are no injuries on the Girls Varsity team. Freshman Shiloh Kincaid played Olathe East on Feb. 10, and she is coming back from an ankle injury.

Lineup Changes

No recent lineup changes have been made, the Lancers have started the same girls since winter break.
