Get involved: Here are 4 clubs to join this year


Clubs are a great way to get involved with the school, even though these are clubs that don’t have a lot of members, there still worth checking out;

LGBTQ plus club

LGBTQ PLUS club allows for queer students to have a space to feel accepted, with activities like pride flag bracelet making and designing and hanging up posters around East.

Where do they meet: Room 524, and the library (switches each week)

How often do they meet: Every Wednesday 

How long are meetings: 2:40-4:00 p.m.

Why should you join: “It’s a wonderful community,” senior and club president Jeanne Özkan said.

International Club

International Club focuses on things outside of America. They meet with international students and talk about how their country is different from America. They also participate in activities relating to different countries like a lobster sale fundraiser, a fundraiser that raises money for East’s foreign exchange program.

Where do they meet: Room 307

How often do they meet: Every third Wednesday of the month

How long are meetings: 2:40-3:30 p.m.

Why should you join: “It’s a really neat way to meet people from around the world and it’s a super fun part of East,” member of International Club and sophomore Cate Gallagher said.

Chess/Go club

Chess/Go club focuses on playing chess and Gomoku, a game similar to tic-tac-toe. The purpose of the game is to place five stones consecutively on the board. They compete in tournaments once or twice during the semester.

Where do they meet: Library 

How often do they meet: Every Monday after school

How long are meetings: 2:40-4:00 p.m.

Why should you join: “Chess and Gomoku are really good games, really incidentally stimulating,” (grade level) and president of chess/go club Spencer Collins said.

LGBTQ history club

LGBTQ history club educates people about the history of the queer community. They listen to powerpoint presentations, have group discussions and participate in art projects. Their space is open to contributing information and different opinions people may have.

How often do they meet: Every Monday and sometimes on the weekends

Where do they meet: Room 518

How long are meetings: 2:40-3:10 p.m.

Why should you join: “It’s a super fun way to learn history with your peers and also learn about really interesting subjects that aren’t taught in school,” sophomore and president of LGBTQ history club Josie Wilson-Head said.
