The girls varsity swim team has a meet today at 3:30 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center.

After their last game was canceled, the girls C team played St. Teresa’s Academy on Friday, May 9. During the first quarter of the game neither team scored. At half-time the score remained 0-0. At the end of the third quarter both teams still hadn’t scored. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, STA scored the first goal of the game against goalie Hannah Rosemann.

The girls C team will play next today at 5 p.m. at SM Northwest High School. The Lancers’ record is now 7-1-2 with two games remaining before the end of the season.

All three of the Yogurtini frozen-yogurt parlors i

All three of the Yogurtini frozen-yogurt parlors in the Kansas City area are being rebranded to “Fifth & Emery” starting in February.

The name change localizes the parlors to honor the owner of the Kansas City franchises, Isaac Lee Collins’, children. The name comes from his daughter’s middle name, Emery, and his son is the fifth-generation Isaac in the family.

Senior Camryn Zorn began working at Fifth & Emery as the name change went underway and is in favor of the rebranding.

Zorn explains that after the rebranding, the parlor is generally the same besides a few new flavors. The biggest change, according to Zorn, is the introduction of chocolates for sale this fall.

“When I look at you, I don’t see your mistakes.”

David Harbor's heart-felt performance as “The Red Guardian” doesn’t begin to establish the amazingly realistic and fleshed-out characters of Marvel’s newest film “Thunderbolts*.”

Before I watched “Thunderbolts*,” I didn’t know the difference between a “dark” film and a “gritty” film. Gritty films are grounded in realism and dire situations while dark films can present themselves through many different genres.

While the film is easily Marvel’s darkest — having some of the most emotional and personal moments since “Infinity War” and “Endgame” — watching "Thunderbolts*" was the most fun I’ve had with a Marvel film since I was twelve.

On the second day of papal conclave — a private meeting with all Cardinals to elect a new Pope — the 135 elected a new pope following Pope Francis’s passing on April 21.

The new pope is Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV. He’s the first American pope and is from Chicago, Illinois.

Leo’s 69 years old and spent his career ministering in Peru. He’s considered more centrist by Vatican experts and is seen as calm, balanced and an exceptional leader, according to Forbe

Freshmen met outside the main office to draw messa

Freshmen met outside the main office to draw messages for the seniors with chalk at the senior sidewalk send-off at 9:30 a.m. during seminar on Tuesday, May 6. Students wrote messages on the sidewalk that read “Good Luck” and “Congratulations” around the main circle drive to the seniors, ate popsicles and took pictures with their chalk designs. Freshman Connection, a SHARE community service program, organized the event as a way to celebrate the class of 2025. Students split up in teams of two to four to plan and create designs to send off the seniors, which were then judged by the SHARE execs. The event was open to all grades. The day after the event, the drawings were washed away after a rainstorm hit Prairie Village. This event was freshman connection’s last activity of the school year.

At noon, a false Code Red Lockdown was allegedly triggered by a substitute teacher in team games, mistakenly calling for a Code Red instead of a first-responder lockdown protocol, according to SM East students.

The substitute was attempting to get first aid for a student who was reportedly hit in the head with a softball during the team games class, and accidentally triggered the Code Red protocol instead.

Red lights began to flash in every classroom, and an automated voice warned faculty and students of the Code Red.

“Lock the classroom door. Code Red turn out the lights, stay away from sight. Maintain silence. Code Red,” the automated voice said.

Fourteen seniors were honored on Wednesday, April

Fourteen seniors were honored on Wednesday, April 30 at the girls swim and dive senior night. SM East defeated SM South 262-171. The Lancers placed first in 11 events out of 12. After the 50 freestyle, there was a break to honor the seniors on senior night. Isabel Baldassaro, Emmy Barrett, Ingrid Blacketer, Maren Dickerson, Jordan Fuller, Francie Garrison, Faith Grecian, Paige Henderson, Addie Moore, Brie Murdoch, Anna Ravis, Poppy Root, Kate Rose and Georgia Wikoff are the seniors on the team. Senior Emmy Barrett qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.34.

The junior varsity girls have JV sunflower league on Tuesday May, 6 at 3:30pm located in the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center.

The girls lacrosse team won 26-6 against Lee Summi

The girls lacrosse team won 26-6 against Lee Summit on senior night on April 28 at the Shawnee Mission District Soccer Complex. Senior Brynn Delaney led the varsity Shawnee Mission Girls Lacrosse team against Lee Summit, scoring seven goals.The team is undefeated this season, with a 9-0 record.

They are currently ranked third in their bracket and are waiting for the schedule to come out for the post season Kansas City Metro Girls Lacrosse Association Championship.
