Gallery: Varsity Track and Field places seventh and eighth in South Relays

In their second meet of the season, the varsity track and field team placed seventh for the boys and eighth for the girls overall. The boys scored 46 points, while the first-place winner, Olathe West, scored 111 points. The girls scored 29 points in the meet and the first-place winner, Olathe West, scored 155.5 points. In the meet, the 4×1600 school record time was broken with a time of 18:22.37 and senior Wyatt Haughton, senior Blair Ptacek, senior Caden Peters and junior Rowan Gibson running. The 4×800 meet record time was also broken with senior Wyatt Haughton, senior Blair Ptacek, senior Caden Peters and sophomore Jack Broghammer running a time of 8:06.77.

Several athletes were also added to the performance pyramid in the hallway by the track equipment room. This performance pyramid is a way for all track and field athletes to display their progress. These levels are split into Gold, Silver and Bronze based on their time or distance, which are separated by times or distances that are set to each standard. Athletes who achieved the Gold level in this meet included senior Evan Whittington in the 300m hurdles, senior Mary Cronin in the triple jump and freshman Cate Conrad in the pole vault. Athletes who achieved the Silver level in the meet included senior Scarlett Pearlman in the 1600m, senior Luke Fisher in the 300m hurdles, junior Lida Padgett in the 800m and sophomore Carson Graves in the 300m hurdles. Athletes who achieved the Bronze level in the meet included senior Ike Sheets in the 100m, senior Jack Slaughter in the 200m, senior Evan Whittington in the 110m hurdles, senior Mary Cronin in the long jump, junior Greyson Imm in the 3200m, junior William Norris in the 3200m, junior Jack Joyce in the 3200m, junior Emaline Handzel in the javelin, junior Ben Hembree in the 100m, sophomore Brady Haughton in the 200m, sophomore Jack Broghammer in the 800m, sophomore Quinn McCarthy in the long jump, freshman Catherine Beltrame in the 400m, freshman Rebekah Slaughter in the javelin and freshman Emerson Lindberg in the 100m.

The next varsity track and field meet will be on Friday, April 7 at Blue Valley. The next junior varsity track meet will be on Thursday, April 6 at SM Northwest.
