Gallery: Varsity Football Falls to Shawnee Mission NW 48-21 on Senior Night

Prior to kickoff at 6:25 p.m., 29 seniors were recognized for Senior Night. Seniors Jack Reeves, Christian Shaw, Davis Eakes, Hunter Wittmer, Vince Kopp, Tucker Ward, Alex Wonderly, Trey Pendleton, Henry Stiglic, Brady Boxberger, Gage Mayfield, Eric Schlote, Reed Crutchfield, Paxton Ochs, Ezra Pastine, Brock Rider, Michael English, Noah Jewell, Mete Ozkan, Hank Hunter, Will Shelton, Gabe Wallace, Elijah Wilson, Kingston Savich, Mason Bruner, Fletcher Douglass, Quentin Ochs and Ayden Mooney were honored. Each senior was escorted by family members during the ceremony.

The game kicked off at 7 p.m., with the Lancers punting to the Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars. The Cougars scored first on a 29-yard touchdown pass with three minutes left in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, sophomore Rory Capstack scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Shortly after, the Cougars answered with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. With eight minutes left in the second quarter, the Lancers added another touchdown. Near the end of the half, the Cougars scored on a 7-yard rushing touchdown, making the halftime score 14–21.

In the third quarter, the Cougars scored three more touchdowns, while Capstack added another late in the quarter, bringing the score to 42–21 in favor of the Cougars. With two minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored again on a 4-yard run to seal a 48–21 win over the Lancers.

After the game, the Marching Band and Lancer Dancer Guard performed their “Glow Show.” The performance featured their usual flag routine, "Baroquen Glass,” enhanced with LED lights. The stadium lights were turned off during the performance to highlight the glowing effect.

The varsity football team’s next game is Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. against the Blue Valley West Jaguars at SM South District Stadium.

Annie Trenkle

Annie Trenkle
Going into her second year on staff, Junior Annie Trenkle is a photographer for the Harbinger. Outside of taking photos she is a part of the IB program and her favorite class in school is AP Physics. Annie’s outside of school activities include soccer, tennis, and basketball. She is also the chair of Harvesters Give Lunch and Wayside Waifs SHARE organizations. However, she can also be found doing the things she loves most which is traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. »
