Gallery: Varsity Football Falls To Mill Valley 56-21

The SM East varsity football team took on the Mill Valley Jaguars on Sept. 19. The Lancers won the coin toss and deferred, electing to kick off to the Jaguars. The Lancer defense held Mill Valley after three tackles for loss causing a Jaguar punt giving the Lancers the ball early in the first quarter.

The Lancers offense stalled on its first drive, giving the ball back before the Jaguars scored the first touchdown of the game. Mill Valley led 14-0 with three seconds left in the first quarter when senior Henry Stiglic ran the ball for a touchdown. to get the Lancers on the board, cutting the lead to 14-7 Jaguars.

Mill Valley answered with a two minute 43 second drive to go ahead 21-7, then extended the lead to 35-7 by halftime. The Lancers opened the third quarter with a three minute and 49 second drive ending in a 1-yard rush by senior Jack Reeves, making it 35-14 Jaguars. With two minutes left in the third quarter, sophomore Max Sullivan returned a kickoff for a touchdown. While this was the second kickoff return score of the night for the Lancers, Mill Valley still led 49-21. The Lancers made one last push in the fourth quarter reaching the Jaguars’ 10 yard line before being stopped. Mill Valley regained possession of the ball with one minute left where they ran out the clock to seal a 56-21 win. 

The 2-1 Lancers varsity football team will take on the 2-1 Olathe South Falcons at SM South district stadium on Sept. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
