The Lancers opening drive started with senior Jack Reeves rushing for an 83-yard touchdown on the first offensive play. The Ravens answered with a passing touchdown to tie the game 7-7 in the first quarter, then senior Henry Stiglic returned the following kickoff 80 yards to give SME a 14-7 lead to end the quarter.

In the second quarter, the Ravens forced a fumble in the red zone by Reeves, then intercepted a pass from senior Vince Kopp, converting both turnovers into touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead. Sophomore Thomas Vanice responded with a rushing touchdown, though the extra point was missed, before the Ravens added another touchdown before halftime to make it 28-20. Neither team scored in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, junior Chase Jehle caught a red-zone touchdown pass and junior Gus Ketteler grabbed the two-point conversion to tie the game. With three seconds left, Reeves made a field goal that bounced off the crossbar and went through the uprights to give the Lancers the win in their first football game of the season on Lancer Day, Friday, Sept. 5.

The Lancers will play their next game against Topeka Seaman on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at Topeka Seaman High School.
