The pep club ended the Sweetheart Dance spirit week with an assembly held in the main gym on Friday, Feb. 6. The assembly began in the dark, and pep execs instructed students to turn on their flashlights for the “Do It” chant. Shortly after the chant, the varsity cheerleaders performed their routine, and varsity Lancer Dancers performed their hip-hop routine for the second time. The first time was at the Stateline Showdown basketball game against Rockhurst High School.

After the performances, Principal Jason Peres recognized students for academic achievements, including those in band, journalism, those with perfect scores on different sections of the ACT and seniors with top GPAs. Head varsity basketball coach Sean Hair was also recognized with his 500th career win.

Once Peres’ speech was over, Sweetheart court members played a game where they put on wigs and tried to snatch them off each other’s heads until only one remained. Court candidates were seniors Morgan Beedle, Georgia Boyd, Ava Carroll, Macy Fore, Maggie McCarthy, Kai Campbell, Elliott Cowden, Chander Desai, Michael English and Charlie Hoskins. Charlie Hoskins won the competition, and Sweetheart court results will be announced at the varsity boys basketball game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.

To end the assembly, everyone sang the school song then students were dismissed to go back to their classes.
