The boys’ soccer team fell to Lawrence High School Lions last Tuesday night 2-1, putting their record at 4-4-0 on the year.
The Lancers took the lead in the first five minutes with a goal from sophomore midfielder Stanley Morantz. Senior forward Derek Steiert struck again in the 20 minute, sending the ball into the right side of the goal, but was called offsides.
But the game’s moment began to swing in favor of Lawrence and in the fifth minute of the first half, the Lions put in the equalizing goal. The teams went into the half at 1-1.
The Lions came out of the half on the attack. Only three minutes in, they took a shot at the goal which was knocked back on the goalline by an East defender. But the ball wasn’t cleared and the Lions pounced on the opportunity, sending the ball into the top of the net.
The Lancers picked up the urgency, but were never able to come up with an equalizing goal. They struggled passing the ball through the Lawrence defense in the final third of the field and they’re defense struggled against the Lawrence counter attack.
This is the third game of the year that the Lancers have given up their lead to lose. Their next game will be this Thursday night against the Olathe East Hawks at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
