On Saturday, August 20, the Lancer Dancers hosted their annual fundraiser breakfast, the tables were packed and the gym smelled like syrup and pancakes. The girls kicked off the morning with new choreography for the Varsity and Junior Varsity dances.
Varsity Captain Anna Dierks said, “We learned the song we danced to at NDA camp in June”. It was essentially a mashup of songs for the team dance. Her goal for this year is “to do well at Nationals but also have fun as a team.” The Lancer Dancers are decided on this years hip hop theme. Dierks said she thinks this years theme definitely has the potential to top the astronaut dance.
Following the dances, Drum line made an entrance with their first performance of the school year. Later, The Basics, a local band, performed cover songs by James Bay, The Beatles, Twenty One Pilots, and Civil Wars. They also performed an original song called Back to You. Members Andrew Telthorst, Max Zimmerman, and Jamie Fogelsong wrote the instrumentals to it and Harper Mundy composed the words and the melody. Mundy said, “This was the first time we had ever played it and I think it went really well!”
The support from East’s student body was a success for the fundraiser. At the conclusion of the breakfast, the Drill Team made approximately $2,400.
