Gallery: JV Football defeats Olathe East 26-20

The JV Lancer football team defeated the Olathe East Hawks 26-20 after going into overtime on Monday, Oct. 21. The Lancers’ record prior to the game was 5-1.

Running back junior Christian Shaw dislocated his shoulder on the first offensive drive of the game. The score after the first quarter was tied 6-6, each team scoring a touchdown with no extra points made.

After the second quarter, the Lancers were behind 20-6, following two touchdowns from the Hawks. During halftime, the JV Lancer cheer squad performed a pyramid in front of the crowd. With a comeback during the third quarter, sophomore Owen Wantland and Chase Jehle both scored a touchdown for the Lancers. The score was now 20-20. It remained constant throughout the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime.

To start overtime, the Hawks had the ball. The Lancers eventually stopped the Hawks on a fourth down, preventing them from scoring and resulting in a turnover. Once the lancers had the ball, sophomore Owen Wantland scored the game winning touchdown.

The JV football team’s next and final game will be on Monday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. against the Olathe South Eagles at the Olathe District Activity Center.
