Gallery: Honors Chemistry Gas Lab

By

The honors Chemistry classes recently did a lab where they had to determine the molar volume of a gas. Students first had to measure out a small amount of magnesium ribbon, then fold it into a circle and tightly wrap copper ribbon around it. Then they had to place the magnesium and copper into a beaker of water. Next, they filled a graduated cylinder with 25 mL of HCL before filling it up the rest of the way with water. Students then had to carefully turn the graduated cylinder upside down and place it over the ball of magnesium ribbon and copper without spilling.
