Gallery: Gymnastics Wins First Place at the SMSD District Championship

The Lancer gymnastics team took first place at the SMSD District Championship on Oct. 1 at SM Northwest. It was also the team's senior night. The team celebrated seniors Kara Parrett, Nithmi Walpitage, Andi Prendiville and Phoebe Kandeda. The other gymnasts that competed were freshman Scarlett Stubs and Julia Hunter, sophomore Zoey Allen, and juniors Vanessa Blades, Bella Drier and Piper Kiehne. The highlight of the night was Prendiville's second attempt on vault as she stuck the landing. Allen also flipped her vault, which greatly improved the team's score. This is the team's last season as the gymnastics program is ending next year, which sparked more participation this year. The team competed in all four events at the meet which included vault, bars, beam, and floor, for a total score of 109.95 to win the championship.

The girls gymnastics team has their next meet at 10 a.m on Oct. 4 at Newton High School.
