Gallery: Girls Varsity Soccer Defeats SM West 5-2

The SM East Lancers defeated the SM West Vikings 5-2 on Tuesday, April 8. Five minutes into the first half, the Vikings scored their first goal. Junior Louisa Holzbeierlein scored for the Lancers four minutes later, tying up the score 1-1. Senior Gia Tuso scored her first goal as a varsity player 17 minutes into the game from the right side of the field outside the 18-yard box,making the score 2-1. Sophomore Addy Newman scored with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Sophomore Bella Tilgner received a red card with eight minutes remaining. Tilgner came out of the box to save a ball, however, because she got a handball outside of the box on a scoring opportunity, she had to be sent off the field. Freshman Landry Duchene replaced Tilgner for the rest of the game. Holzbeierlein scored her second goal of the game with six minutes remaining in the first half. Junior Natalie Scobie received a penalty kick with zero seconds remaining in the first half. Scobie had to take the penalty kick before the first half ended. Scobie scored the penalty kick, making the score 5-1 at the end of the first half. At the start of the second half, the Vikings scored making the score 5-2. The Lancers were able to hold them off until the end of the game leaving the final score 5-2.

The girls varsity soccer team has their next game on Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. against Shawnee Mission South at the Shawnee Mission Athletic Complex.
