Gallery: Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to SM South 67-36

With a total of 16 team fouls throughout the game, the girls varsity basketball team lost to the SM South Raiders 67-36 in the last game of the regular season on Feb. 27, at SM South. The Raiders won the tipoff to start the game and continued to lead throughout the first quarter with a score of 19-8. Junior Lauren Mercer scored six of the eight points for the Lancers. The Lancers improved their scoring in the second quarter, but couldn’t stop the Raiders, making the score 34-20 at halftime. In the second half, the Raiders stayed in control and started full-court pressing to limit the amount of points from the Lancers. The Lancers struggled to break the press, resulting in five turnovers within the third quarter, but were still able to score 12 points, making the score 50-32. During the final quarter, the Lancers let freshmen Lucy Dillion, Charlotte Kapke, and Elizabeth Beltrame onto the court to bolster team morale. The final score of the game was 67-36. Junior Coco Reiser was the leading scorer with 12 points, followed by Mercer with 11.

The Lancers will play their next game in the first round of the Sub-State tournament at 7:00 p.m. against Olathe South at Olathe South High School.
