Gallery: Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to Olathe South 59-36

With the season coming to an end at sub-state against the Olathe South Falcons, three new school records were set for the SM East Girls Basketball Team. Senior Paige Stanfield set a record for 301 rebounds in a single season and an additional record for 924 rebounds in a career. Senior Fina Kessler set another school record for 71 three-point shots in a single season. Starting the game on Mar. 3, at Olathe South, the Lancers were down 17 points finishing the first quarter 24-7. In the following quarter, ending the first half of the game, the Lancers were able to improve their score, but were still down to the Falcons 34-13. Olathe South has 34 personal fouls in the first half of the game, while East only had 13. As the second half began, the Falcons were still leading the game, but by the end of the third quarter, the Lancers started to gain more points with senior Fina Kessler getting two three-pointers back-to-back, and sophomore Audrey Rose scoring one three-pointer, which gave the Lancers nine points in the third quarter, resulting in a score of 47-23. The fourth quarter began and the Lancers continued to play, and they were able to score 13 points in the final quarter. The seniors on SM East subbed out with three minutes left in the game for sophomores Elizabeth Beltrame, Rowan Heryer and freshman Tulie Zahner who will be the Varsity players next year. The final score was 59-36 with senior Paige Stanfield as a leading scorer with 12 points and senior Fina Kessler as the second leading scorer for the Lancers with 9 points.
