Gallery: Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to Olathe West 72-38

The Lancers started out strong in the first quarter of the game, keeping up with Olathe West. The Lancers were tied with Olathe West 11-11 at the end of the first quarter. SM East only scored four points in the second quarter, the least amount of points scored out of all the quarters. Olathe West scored 22 points in the second quarter, causing the Lancers to fall behind. After half, the Lancers were not able to keep up with Olathe West. Olathe West scored a combined 39 points in the second half, while the Lancers only scored a combined 23 points. However, during the third quarter of the game against Olathe West, senior Abigail Long broke the SM East girls basketball record for most points scored in a career. She has scored 1,334 points in her career so far, beating the 20 year old record set by Rebecca Parker, who scored 1,328 points. Abigail Long still has two more games to play to increase this record. The girls varsity basketball team record is now 10-9.

The next varsity team game is Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. against SM South High School at SM East High School.
