Gallery: Freshman Football Falls to Lawrence 42-41

In a triple overtime game, the freshman football team fell to the Lawrence Lions on Thursday, Oct. 2. The Lions started the scoring in the game with a field goal after Lancer quarterback Tommy Burgess threw an interception on the first drive of the game. The Lancers responded with a long passing touchdown from Burgess to freshman Hudson Klocke to put them ahead. East scored another touchdown before halftime and intercepted a pass at the end of the second quarter to keep them up 13-3 at the half. The Lions scored a touchdown with six minutes left in the third quarter, and a two-point conversion made the score 13-11. With seven minutes left in the game, freshman John Desalvo increased the Lancers’ lead with a touchdown run, but East missed the point after attempt, making the score 19-11. Nearing the end of the game, Lawrence responded with a long touchdown run and a converted two-point attempt to tie the game. With under a minute left, the Lions intercepted a pass from the Lancer quarterback and ran out the clock to force overtime. 

In overtime, the Lions scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion.The Lancers did the same, leading to double overtime.Then East scored another touchdown in double overtime to make the score 35-27. Lawrence was also able to convert in double overtime, tying the game at 35. In the third and final overtime, the Lions scored first and converted their point after. The Lancers were able to get the touchdown but fell short on the extra point, making the final score 42-41.

The team's next game will be against SM North on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4:15 p.m. The game will be played at SM North.
