Gallery: East Against Gun Violence Quilt Making

East Against Gun Violence met on Feb. 11 after school to create quilt squares for a future quilt they will make to advocate against gun violence. This is the first time East Against Gun Violence has made a quilt to raise awareness, and it will be hung up in nearby churches, such as the Village Presbyterian Church. Members of the club will go to these churches and speak to their youth groups about gun violence and have aspirations for the future to expand quilt involvement from other gun violence awareness groups. Recently, East Against Gun Violence collaborated with Grandparents for Gun Safety during the last SHARE Service Seminar. Grandparents for Gun Safety brought materials to pack 400 gun locks, including its signature program, Lock It For Love, which has distributed thousands of high-quality gun locks.

“I love seeing all of the school involvement from other students who also feel passionate about it,” said senior co-president Eliza King. “I think that we’re giving a lot of people a good opportunity to talk about an uncomfortable topic that we don’t think should be an uncomfortable topic”.

East Against Gun Violence meets every other Wednesday in room 508 with their sponsor Ann Flurry.
